Black grapes

The grape is the fruit of the grapevine. It appears as clusters of berries with skins of varying colors, from pale yellow-green to purple. Grapes are classified as white, red, or black, and as table grapes or wine grapes. Numerous varieties exist within each category. Each fruit contains two to four small seeds.

The final stretch of summer brings us black grapes. Their skin is especially rich in anthocyanins, a type of flavonoid with potent antioxidant activity, and other polyphenols, compounds that help protect neurons and keep brain activity active.

Black grapes are also rich in resveratrol, biotin, and vitamin K, three nutrients that contribute to the natural beauty of skin, hair, and nails. They contain little vitamin C but are higher in vitamins A, B1, and B2. Generally speaking, all edible, colorful vegetables (green, red, blue, purple) are excellent for protecting eye health. It's important to note, however, that some wild, colorful berries are toxic.

Black grapes are sweet, juicy, and slightly acidic. Eaten fresh, they are the only fruit that can be consumed as a sole food source for a few days (two or three) without causing significant nutritional deficiencies. They contain 70 calories per 100 grams.

They go well with red meats, game, foie gras, sauces, leafy greens, nuts, cheese boards, charcuterie boards, cakes, jams, dark chocolate, migas, wines...
